On Friday, we thought we should fully enjoy the weather, and take a walk. Then, because it was so enjoyable, we stopped for a drink. We passed the park, and decided to sit for a while. At some point, we got hungry, decided to walk to one of the restaurants facing the lake, and have dinner. I love that nights like this are possible here. The city is safe, small, and picturesque. All of which allows one simple walk to turn into something much, much more.
On Saturday, we took our first balcony nap of the 2011. Luckily this couch fits two people. If not, we'd have problems.
On Saturday night, we introduced our friends to a little taste of New Orleans with gumbo and king cake. The only problem was the sausage. Andouille here is not the andouille we know. It's stomach (and tastes gross). And anything "cajun smoked" is not going to happen. So, we settled on hot Italian sausage, and something that looked "cajun smoked," but in reality was just a hot dog. With the exception of hot dogs in the gumbo, it turned out pretty tasty.
Our friends couldn't get over the idea of a king cake baby. Not sure why... baking Jesus into a pasty makes perfect sense to me. Thankfully, one of them got the lucky piece (I was hoping it wouldn't be me or Ryan).
It's weekends like this (full of friends, leisurely walks, and sunny, outdoor naps) that make me think I'm not ready to leave this lifestyle behind. Good thing we have five more months!
